YouTube audience willing to watch advertisements for free content

Posted by Admin @ April 1st, 2007 in Video Advertising

youtube_ad_082707.JPGA recent report by Conchango indicates that viewers of online videos are willing to watch advertisements if they get free content in return, reports Media Guardian. This is very much in line with previous research that shows mobile users are willing to receive ads on their mobiles if they get free content in return, and is good news for the publishers of online videos such as YouTube, which has recently started showing video ads on its site.

Good news for marketers, too, since it proves that online content can very well be advertised, as long as the content is worth it for the viewers. As Google has already understood, marketers and publishers need to work together to find right combinations of content and advertising. For now, handpicking online content seems to be the only right way for marketers to ensure that their advertisements will be placed with appropriate and popular content on YouTube.

In related news, Computer World reports that many users are upset by the introduction of ads in YouTube. This news is based on reactions on the YouTube blog. We believe that the writer of this article is putting too much weight on blog comments here. Viewers are, initially, generally against advertisements and this goes especially for viewers that use the YouTube blog. An online video site cannot sustain itself without a solid income, and banner advertisements are not enough in this case. Publishers threatening to take their content somewhere else, well they just might do that. And then find out that there is no place where they can post their videos without advertising appearing alongside them. In that sense, we think that the ad system YouTube offers is not very intrusive. And it seems that users do not mind seeing these ads, as long as YouTube remains free for them.
