Marketers advertise on social networking sites but users are hardly interested

Many agencies advertise on social networking sites, mostly to increase brand awareness and drive traffic to their sites. It is part of their strategy of being able to be found on the Internet. But according to this eMarketer report, users of these networking sites are hardly searching for products or services. They only use these networks, as could be expected, as a networking tool. It seems marketers might interpret the users’ behavior of social sites the wrong way, and overestimate the use of these sites as product finders.
