Hyves: The Dutch sensation opens up
Posted by Admin @ June 27th, 2007 in Social Marketing
It’s about time we dedicated an article on 77 to Hyves. The Dutch company has such a strong presence in the Netherlands that, according to Hyves frontman Raymond Spanjar, myspace introduced their services in other European countries first before trying the Netherlands.
Hyves now introduced a new range of ‘gadgets’, plug-ins that users can add to their personal page and that can vary from last.fm playlists to YouTube videos. The result is that users can more clearly express who they are and what they stand for.
Of course, this opens up many opportunities for marketers. The preferences of Hyves users are much more clearly defined, and everything they add is done voluntarily, so privacy issues are not relevant as all information is publicly available.
The ‘openness’ of Hyves is a couple of steps behind that of Facebook however, which just opened up its site for all program developers. Hyves is, so far, keeping the development of the ‘gadgets’ in-house. This does give them full control about what information they would like to gather form their customers.
