Facebook tweaks user profiles and refuses to stay behind MySpace

Facebook has undergone a facelift! claims The New York Times.

The second largest social network on the Internet has undergone some changes on the member’s profile interface, which will eventually give users more control over their details, photos and personal information.

When will Facebook be unveiling their new look? As of now, it is only in limited use, but will be rolled out little by little in the coming days. Apart from making it more orderly, some of the changes being executed include adding new features to the famous ‘Wall’ section, so that people can attach items more easily.

Because Facebook continues to be placed second, after its all-time rival MySpace, the majority of the alterations will be targeted to gaining market share and attracting first-timers(or stealing away MySpacers) to their social platform. It’s all about beating the Big guy, right?. So I take they will be focusing on making it much more than just user-friendly.

Reports say they will be working on exterminating some of the clutter and providing more category tabs for easier navigation. Every so often, member profiles are packed with useless information that simply doesn’t tell you anything about the person you’re contacting and I say this based on personal experience.

In addition, as reported on Computer World, it is important for Facebook to think ahead and evolve together with society. One thing is to continue to appeal to existing users, another to appeal to newcomers. Innovations, trends and updates are definitely Do’s.

We have to say..we’ve seen the new interface and although it could take some getting used to, we like it! We didn’t think we would! Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the FB community takes it.
