Can you live without networking? The social network popularity continues to grow

What’s the longest you’ve gone without logging in to Facebook or Twitter? Or for that matter, when was the last time you chatted with friends or made some kind of comment on a blog or forum?
According to Anderson Analytics, the average social networker goes to social sites five days a week and checks in about four times a day for a total of an hour each day. Nine-percent stay logged in all day and are constantly checking out what’s new.
In addition, the study also revealed that 110 million Americans or 36% of the total population, are avid social network users.
The research was conducted online with 5,000 demographically representative U.S. social media users from which 75% declared Facebook was the most valuable social network, followed by MySpace with 65%, LinkedIn with 30% and Twitter with 12%. In like manner, 78% of regular Facebook users stated they log in at least once a month followed by MySpace (67 million), Twitter (17 million) and LinkedIn (11 million).
Even though we keep hearing a lot of buzz about social networks attracting an older crowd, 61%, the majority, is still under 35.
More important findings for marketers: Some 52% of social networkers had friended or become a fan of at least one brand. When asked the question whether they’d like to see more information and updates from brands, 45% gave no opinion, 20% said yes and 35% said no.
Just as we have mentioned on our previous posts, many brands and marketers are opting to shift to social media and online activities as part of their communication strategy. This study by Anderson supports these facts highlighting that 50% of respondents affirmed they have followed a commercial service, product, or brand on a social networking site, while almost half of users surveyed (46%) reported saying something positive about a brand on a social networking site.
