Athletes World boosts its social media activities

Athletes World, a prominent international retailer for athletic and recreational footwear and apparel, also a 77 client here in Italy, is currently undergoing some website restructuring to make www.athletesworld.it more interactive and retailer brand a more ’socially’ oriented one within the world of social media.
Our social media team, in collaboration with Attila & Co., has been working on integrating AW’s contact base with that of Facebook’s, whose Italian audience totals almost 9 million users, thus having access to approx. 800.000 users between the age 14-24.
Currently, AW has a Fan Page (aka Public Profile) which features the latest news, videos and photos for their different brands. Facebook Connect has also been added to the website and presents a great branding opportunity for their different products and brands allowing users to share their experience with the rest of their Facebook contacts for a great viral effect.
As highlighted on a previous post, social networks and blogging sites are now the fourth most popular activity on the Internet. The total amount spent online globally increased by 18% between December 2007 and December 2008. In the same period, the amount of time spent on Facebook by a massive 566%.
Another recent implementation available in the AW site, is the ‘thumbs up, thumbs down’ feature that allows users to vote for a specific shoe model. Once voting is completed, the selected item will show up in Facebook’s mini-feed visible to everyone.
All you have to do is access AW’s homepage, enter the Collections tab on the menu, choose a category (men’s/women’s shoes), then select which model you’d like to give thumbs-up or thumbs-down to and voilà!
And last but not least, AW’s personalized YouTube Channel is also available and opens yet another door for users and fans to interact and connect with the brand. Videos displayed in the YouTube Channel will also be integrated into Athletes World’s homepage on a regular basis.
More on the subject will be provided on a later date as social tasks for the client are completed.
