Small Business Issue: can you afford professional SEO?
Posted by Admin @ July 14th, 2007 in Search Engine Optimization
Search Engine Land touched on an interesting issue today: is professional Search Engine Optimization affordable for small businesses? They reach the conclusion that any company can do SEO and that it is always worth the money. Understandable, since the writer is with a company called ‘Pole Position Marketing’ and might have something to gain on people being able to afford SEO – although the article is rather objective. He touches on subjects like the allocation of time and money, which is interesting if you own a small business. Also when it comes to what’s necessary, he makes a few good points, like ‘Success comes from doing the right things at the right time, in the right way’.
At 77 we agree with this, but we feel obliged to point out that if you do own a small business, it is often worth your while to do a bit of SEO yourself. You know your own business and, if you’re smart, you know your own website. Even with the tips you can find here on 77Lab you will be able to implement the most basic SEO to your site yourself within a few evenings at home. Add to that the knowledge you will gain which could help you select a professional if you decide later that you want professional help – for example because your eCommerce is growing like mad – and the invested time will prove worth it.
