UK Internet users most valuable to web advertisers

The Financial Times reported that advertisers spend more on UK residents than any other Europeans: an average of €82.46 was spent per Internet user over 2006, more than twice what advertisers spent on the average European Internet user (€39). It was also more than the average spend on US web users, which was estimated at about €60. The research was conducted by the Internet Advertising Bureau Europe and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Only 57 percent of UK residents had access to Internet by the end of 2006, with 90 percent watching television at least once per week. For now, 77 expects Internet access to grow until eventually the web and TV will merge into one medium, with much more web characteristics than TV characteristics. In the UK, a country relatively forward on technology, marketers seem to realize more than in other parts of Europe that they must embrace the new media.
