Search Engine Innovation

Lee Odden of TopRank blog posted a short report on the Search Engine Innovation debate at Search Insider Summit. It explains the way Yahoo is going, as Ron Belanger of Yahoo said their focus points were:
- Getting search to mobile
- Social search - revealing a whole new set of search results.
- Better understanding user intent - Yahoo Mindset is a beta test of understanding user intent.
See this article for an explanation of Yahoo Mindset. Mobile search and social advertising are the hot topics of the day, but it seems Yahoo is not too sure of what to do with it, or does not want to freely distribute this information to the public.
The report further quotes leaders of companies in two other forms of search: vertical indexing and “discovery search”, of which the latter is most interesting. This still evolving form of search lets a user find related subjects depending on her query, her characteristics, her previous searches and actions by the general public.
Aggregate Knowledge is a company that is now providing discoveries.
