No, Kosmix is not the next Google

Rumors in the blogosphere say that Kosmix has come to revolutionize the Web and that it might be the next Google or, for that matter, Google’s successor.
Well, the first part could actually be true since the new start-up is presenting itself as the brand-new Web browser that offers an innovative way of exploring the Web in all its angles. Not a search engine, a Web browser.
Indian-born Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman, co-founders of the company and creators of the Amazon online shopping site- Junglee, have raised a total of $55 million in funding already from venture capitalists such as Accel Partners, Time Warner, Dag Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners and have been backed by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and Facebook.
However, Kosmix is alot more than just a search engine. It is made to tackle those areas where search engines don’t seem to do a good job in: going beyond giving users the right answer. As explained by one of its co-founders, search engines do a good job when you have a simple question for which you want an answer, Kosmix goes beyond just giving the exact answer to a question even if they’re open-ended questions, thus offering a much wider view by going deeper into the given topic.
Kosmix uses a categorization engine which makes different connections within the topic of choice. This in turn offers the best sources of information available and organizes only for the right content surrounding a topic to surface. The information is displayed in different sections within the page: News, Blogs, Basic Resources, Google search results, Videos, Shopping on e-Bay, Images, Audio and a selection of related conversations.
Also, if you try running a query, you will notice the site has a magazine-style layout, which in turn proposes for a more user-friendly experience and a better environment when looking for information on the Web.
Anand Rajaraman narrowed it down to this idea, if you want to find information, use a search engine. If you want to explore broadly, use Kosmix.
The search engine originally operated under three different verticals, RightHealth, a leading health site and the 2nd largest in the U.S. by number of users, RightTrips for travel and RightAuto for information on automobiles both with a couple million unique visitors.
