Google introduces user-generated Mapplets to MyMaps, enhances marketing vehicle of future

Google is betting heavily on its My Maps function, it seems. They introduce some new feature almost every month and rightly so. At 77 we think maps are the advertisement outlets of the future, because of the arrival of the mobile Internet. We think one of the major functions of mobile Internet will be interactive maps on mobile phones, helping people find their ways in strange places. Businesses can not afford not using this medium to advertise on, and Google recognizes this fact.
Google has now increased the user experience of its Maps function by adding user-generated Mapplets (widgets for maps) to the MyMaps page. With the Mapplets one can search for points of interest more effectively – for example by keeping track of the places you have already been – but also learn interesting facts, like where you would end up if you dug a hole straight through the Earth from your house. It’s entertaining and useful, giving Google a foot in to become the number one in mobile maps.
