Google goes offline
Posted by Admin @ June 2nd, 2007 in Search Engine Marketing
Google introduces Gears, an ‘open source browser extension’ that will allow users to work offline on (at least) Google Docs and Spreadsheets and Gmail. We at 77 think that applications like that can be extremely useful for Wi-Fi laptops and mobile Internet browsers, but the marketing side of Google might have to adjust. Users should be able to go on and off the Internet with one click on a button, allowing them to download and upload the necessary information in a short time and not spend the time of the entire session online.
We believe that Google Gears can become very useful for working on the road. Its open source character – an exception to normal Google developing ways – will ensure that the products evolving will be what the mobile worker needs. But from a business perspective, Google will not want to lose the advertising money it would normally make when it sends the information bit by bit. It will have to become able to send the advertising, targeted and well, with the rest of the information.
