Google expanding Map function: New York subway mapped and marketed

Google is taking on the challenge of making an interactive map of the New York City metro map. It will include route planners, time tables, and 77 thinks that after a while it will also support plenty of advertising.
Bloomberg was the first to cover this story and reports that the New York MTA and New Jersey Transit have a combined user number of over 9 million daily. Only a small part of these people will consult an online map, but for companies that cater to a specific small area and target tourists (think mostly foods and drinks) this can be a very valuable way of advertising.
