European online advertising to double over next five years

Online advertising in Europe will double to over €16 billion over the next five years, Forrester’s research concludes. The study covered France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK and included surveys of both consumers and marketing firms: “The value of European online marketing – including email, search, and display advertising – will more than double from around €7.5 billion in 2006 to more than €16 billion in 2012, 18% of total media budgets”
In this light, eMarketer comments:
“The shift in ad spending reflects changing consumer behaviour. Over a third of online Europeans are watching less TV because of their time online. As for the ads, over a third of online consumers did not mind advertising as long as it was relevant to them.”
At 77 we feel that there is still a discrepancy between the amount of time spent by consumers online, and the total marketing spend online. This report shows that this unbalanced market will adjust itself over the next five years.
