Ask.com: new interface, new chances

Posted by Admin @ April 1st, 2007 in Search Engine Marketing

Ask.com is working hard to grow. They recently introduced a new interface trying to implement what they call the ‘three stages of search’ into one page. The general idea of Ask.com within the web community is that they have a lot of room for improvement on the advertiser side, but with these changes they might be able to increase their user numbers. And when the users come, advertisers will follow. The new interface comes after Ask.com ran a series of offline advertisements in the US focused on the catchphrase ‘The Algorithm’. For example, this TV commercial:

The new Ask.com interface – thus far only available on their USA site – is rather handy. One can adjust a search query with some handy suggestions, and preview or bookmark the results from one page (image).

For advertisers, Ask.com is definitely a place to keep an eye on: their offline campaign cost 100 million dollars, showing they take things seriously. This, combined with their new interface, might finally convince people to start using Ask more. When they can get things right on the advertiser side their search engine might become very valuable for marketers and we expect to report soon on how Ask.com is going to handle the sales side of their organization.
