If done right, blogs can be very beneficial for companies of any size and nature and can bring you closer to your current and potential customers. Blogs can help you inform and communicate with the right audience as well as establish and strengthen relationships.
And as you come closer to your audience, you show a side of the company that helps personalize your business, give a face or person to the product/brand which can help in setting you apart from the competition. Your comments, thoughts and insights as industry experts can stimulate people to ask questions, come to you for help and take advice from you seriously.
Although we are not absolute experts in the blogging arena, we do want to offer you some advice that we’ve picked up along the way that may come in handy for better blogging results:
- Create good content- content that adds value. Don’t blog about your services, your products. Remember, you’re blogging for your audience, it’s all about them. Blog about tips, solutions to problems, information that is interesting and insightful that you know your readers will care about. Show them you’re up on the latest news and ideas in the industry.
- Start and participate in conversations- engage in discussions on other blogs or forums and establish relations with potential audience. Listen, learn and also comment. This will bring in new readers to your blog and other bloggers will begin providing links back to your blog as credit to the infromation you’ve provided.
- Better short and sweet that long and dense- content does not have to be neverending in order to prove that you know loads about a given topic. Be precise and keep paragraphs short and easy-to-read (this includes, grammar, punctuation and spelling) in order to keep your readers from drifting away from your blog.
- Smart titles- these can either attract the majority of your readers or scare them away. Also, it’s not all about the creative title, it’s fitting the right keywords in as to make your post acquire a high position within the search results.
- Use “push” vehicles to draw readers and traffic- social websites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn allow you to display your most recent activities, posts, news, etc. For example, Twitter allows you to be in touch with your followers at all times and you can post short 140 character messages to address news quickly. Just like Twitter, Facebook allows for almost the same activities in that you can update people about what you’re doing and post links that drive readers directly to your site. In addition, Facebook allows you to integrate your blog into your profile Page, which gets updated for new content every hour. Using aggregators like FriendFeed can also make it easy to promote your blog posts on just about every social site imaginable.
- Don’t be under the shadow, RSS feed your blog- give your blog more exposure and allow your readers to retrieve all the latest content and information by subscribing to your RSS Feed. Be part of their news.
- Have fun writing!
