Google Earth available for iPhones, not Androids

Posted by Manuela Barreto @ October 27th, 2008 in Mobile Marketing

Google is back with some more Google love for iPhones and the greatest gift ever: Google Earth!

The geographical software has been modified to fit the iPhone’s functionality. Now the auto-tilt feature allows users to view 3D terrains and global imagery as on a PC-sized display. Not only are the images clearer and high-resolution but it also lets you view and choose from 8 million different Panoramio photos from around the world.

By tilting the iPhone, viewers can adjust, zoom in/zoom out, retrieve geo-located photos, view geo-located Wikipedia articles, use the “My Location” feature to display specific maps, or “fly,” as Google Earth Product Manager Peter Birch likes to call it, from one place to another.

One factor that seems to be amusing everyone is that the iPhone’s multitouch screen has actually made Google Earth a more pleasant experience than working on it via a normal PC. A simple drag of your fingertip slides the view as desired, the two-finger pinch gesture zooms in and out and if you twirl it a little, you can shift the orientation of the image from one direction to another.

So, iPhone gets all the Google love and Android gets left behind??
