Big growth predicted in mobile video, mobile TV

Three separate reports predict a huge growth for both mobile TV and mobile video subscriber numbers, reports eMarketer. Its own research, and that of Infonetics Research and Screen Digest reach the conclusion that consumers and providers will focus more on mobile video and TV over the next five years. One of the reasons that are given comes from a “push” point of view: the mobile network providers have seen their income from messaging and voice carrying swindle over the past years and need a new star product.

This research suggests that the growth of mobile video content seems to depend for a large part on the marketing efforts of the network providers. Interest in mobile video and TV in Europe is not very high yet, we concluded before in this interview, and one of the conditions for this to change is the introduction of flat fees for mobile video subscriptions. If providers aim to use mobile video as their new means of making a lot of money, there will probably be a problem trying to sell mobile video to the people.
