The state of online advertising spend in China

Posted by Manuela Barreto @ April 29th, 2010 in Marketing Analysis

Internet traffic monitoring firm Nielsen has released figures on the Chinese online advertising market. According to the report, the Chinese online advertising market continues to grow very quickly reaching 4.06 billion RMB in the first quarter of 2010—a 52.7% increase over the same period in 2009. More than 3,600 advertisers in China advertised online during this time.

Fashion overtook the automobile industry to become the top online ad spender with 17.7% total market share, while the automotive and retail industries ranked second and third, with 15.7% and 10.8% of market share, respectively.

Among the top ten online advertising industries, there was a drop in value for the real estate industry, which suffered 4.7% drop in market share.

Other four industries also suffered market share loss and these include entertainment, real estate, employment and media, each dropping by 2.3%, 4.7%, 1.6% and 0.2%, respectively.

It is expected this will be an exciting year for online ad spend in China since it represents one of the few countries that suffered the least during the economic crisis. More money will be shifted into the online as more marketers will look to stay ahead of the curve, be competitive and most importantly, adapt to consumer behaviors.

I like it!
