The digital world has been measured.
The global online audience has surpassed the one billion mark, according to comScore.
“It is a monument to the increasingly unified global community in which we live and reminds us that the world truly is becoming more flat. The second billion will be online before we know it, and the third billion will arrive even faster…” commented Magid Abraham, comScore’s CEO.
Let’s look closer at the figures- the highest share of internet users went to the Asian-Pacific region with 41.3%. The second largest slice went to Europe with 28% and in third the US with 18.4%.
The report put particular focus on Latin America as the region to keep an eye on. Even though it only had an audience of 7.4% of the users, it seems like there is a rapid growth in internet adoption, specifically the social networks and mobile channels.
When it comes to individual countries, we’re fully aware population does its share to help. China for example, has the biggest share with an incredible figure of 179,710,000 users making up 17.8% of the total worldwide audience. The US is not too far behind with 163,300,000 users and the UK with a total 36,664,000 users.
The study, as presented by Cnet, also brought about other results involving internet properties in particular. Google also received its total share of the internet market with 776 millions registered Google users or 77% of the total audience. Microsoft websites on the other hand, reported 64.2% of users worldwide, followed by Yahoo sites which were visited by 55.8% of the total internet audience.
These incredible figures represent a truly global network of interconnected people, their ideas, insights that transcend borders and hold no boundaries.
