Microsoft starts contextual advertising

Microsoft AdCenter has introduced a contextual advertising test model this week. 77 sticks with Google AdWords and Yahoo for now but welcomes competition in the contextual advertising world. The MS beta will function much like its Google counterpart (AdWords), and will for now be available only on
MSN Money, Tech & Gadgets, Real Estate and Windows Marketplace.
The application will probably not provide many more functions, but a competitor might affect prices and give more insight in the business model of Google AdWords, which has so far been kept secret. We will definitely keep a close eye on this one.
In related news, ResourceShelf reports that Microsoft AdCenter now offers an automatic Ad Creator. Luckily it’s a test version because the results are, so far, horrible. At 77 we do not really see the value of a function like this. It seems to us that the best online ads are made manually, a situation that will never change as long as humans will watch the advertisements. Use the proposed ads as a starting point for a campaign, at best.
